Becky Olson Receives Susan G. Komen for the Cure "Local Hero" Award
Breast Friends co-founders Becky Olson and Sharon Henifin were honored with this years' "Local Hero Award" in a ceremony on September 25, 2007. The award, sponsored by Susan G. Komen for the Cure and BMW of North America, was given to the two women because of their outstanding work in the field of breast cancer awareness. The award was presented to Sharon & Becky, both breast cancer survivors, by Chris McDonald, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, as "community residents who have made an outstanding personal effort in the fight against breast cancer."
Shanon Mornhinweg, President and General Manager of Kuni BMW said, "Everyone is affected by breast cancer. KUNI BMW is committed to the mission to end breast cancer forever and is honored to present Sharon and Becky with the BMW Ultimate Drive Local Hero Award for their tireless crusade to fight breast cancer and for their support of survivors and co-survivors.
Becky Olson, President and Co-founder of Breast Friends said during her acceptance of the award that she didn't feel like a hero. "I think of a hero as someone who runs into a burning building to save a life. We don't do that." She added that it was a tremendous honor, and quite humbling to be recognized for the work they do to try to make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their loved ones.
Sharon Henifin, Breast Friend Executive Director and Co-Founder also humbled by the honor said "It's been my pleasure to help the newly diagnosed and their friends and family members through their journey through breast cancer."
