From: Ottawa RegionalSeptember 2, 2009, Ottawa, IL The Ottawa Regional Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce an evening of inspirational humor and education with Becky Olson, nationally recognized speaker and author of The Hat That Saved My Life, on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Ottawa Township High School Auditorium. The high school is located at 211 East Main Street in Ottawa.
A cancer survivor, Becky will discuss how finding humor in everyday situations when times are tough can make a difference in your outlook and recovery. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to stay for a dessert reception, where Becky will be signing copies of her book.
Beckys story is an inspiration to many. In 1996, at age 43, she went back to school while working a full-time job, to get her college degree. Three months later she was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer. She was given a 60% chance to survive past five years. She always jokes that she is thankful her doctors were wrong because it took her SEVEN years to graduate. Becky has been diagnosed twice since: The second time in 2004 and again in 2009.
She has received several awards for her work, including the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership award and the Susan G. Komen/BMW North America Local Hero award. Just this year, Becky was honored by Bright Starts when she was one of eight women nationally to receive the coveted Pink Power Mom award, which denotes outstanding work in support of women with breast cancer.
Becky has been married for 29 years, has 5 children and 3 grandchildren. She travels all over the country sharing her story.
Tickets for this very special evening with Becky are only $10.00 each and include the presentation, refreshments, and a basket raffle.
