Speaking: Becky has been a public speaker for many years. She was a Toastmaster for several years and served in a variety of leadership roles including District Governor in Oregon. She is a graduate of the Bill Gove Speech Workshop in Boston, MA. Becky is a member of NSA (National Speaker's Association) and is listed in the National Cancer Survivor's Day Speaker's Catalog. Awards: Becky has received numerous awards for her work as a speaker and in the area of breast cancer. Becky holds the D.T.M (Distinguished Toastmaster) award from Toastmaster's International. In November of 2005, Becky received the prestigious "Communication and Leadership" award from Toastmaster's International - District 7 for her work within the breast cancer community in Portland, OR. In 2007, BMW North America, in conjunction with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, awarded Becky the "Local Hero Award" for her work in the breast cancer arena. In 2009 Becky received the national "Pink Power Mom" award from Bright Starts. She received the Bank of America Local Hero Award in 2011.
Career: Becky has many years of successful sales experience. She sold everything from Tupperware to motion pictures. She was vice-president of an independent movie distribution company in Seattle, WA. During her career in yellow page sales she was a top sales rep and managed a team of sales reps in a multi-billion dollar corporation. Becky took early retirement to pursue her career as a full time professional speaker as well as serving in a leadership role in Breast Friends, a non-profit organization she co-founded in 2000.
Author: Becky's book, "The Hat That Saved My Life" was originally released in August of 2004. Her book is now in its second printing. Contact Becky directly to purchase a signed copy. Becky was also a contributing author to “Wise Women Speak,” 2004 and appears in "Chicken Soup for the Soul-Healthy Living Series–Breast Cancer," (2005). She is a contributing author to "How We Became Breast Cancer Thrivers" in 2011.
Education: Becky went back to college after raising her family, and in 2003 earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Marylhurst University, Portland, OR.
Public Service: Becky is the president and co-founder of Breast Friends, a tax exempt, non-profit organization dedicated to helping women survive the trauma of breast cancer...one friend at a time. Breast Friends has received grant funding from Susan G. Komen for the Cure since 2004. Their list of ideas was re-printed in "Chicken Soup for the Soul - Breast Cancer - in Summer of 2005. Their story also appears in "Wise Women Speak," November 2004, and several national breast cancer magazines including "Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine" Summer 2008 edition.
Personal: Becky has been married to Bill since 1980 and is the mother of five grown children and grandmother of four. She lives in Portland, OR.
